Byway Brewing Company sits at Oxbow Landing on Hammond’s south side, next to the I-80/94 and Kennedy Avenue interchange, and opened on February 13, 2016. Founder Dave Toth spent years home brewing under the Sandy Bottom name before leaving commodities work to build a microbrewery; friends Branko Sajn of Munster and Tom Duszynski of Chicago added instrumentation, restaurant and accounting experience, and Phil Sajn runs the taproom as general manager. The name came from a remark about highways and byways during the long search for a site. The taproom is family friendly, with an outdoor patio, a chef-driven menu and private event space.
