Grindhouse Cafe started in Griffith in 2012 and has since added shops in Whiting, at 1600 119th Street, and Highland. The cafe does not roast; instead the shop buys from a rotating roster of Northern Indiana and Chicago roasters, bringing in new coffees several times a week from names such as Dark Matter, Botz, Dagger Mountain, Smugglers, Yaggy Road, Heady Cup and Bee. A pastry cook the cafe calls the Pastry Wizard bakes scones and muffins, and the menu runs to breakfast and lunch with a long tea list. The Whiting shop is on the 119th Street strip, with online ordering for pickup.
