The Silo

The Silo has been a Lake Bluff landmark since June 26, 1968, when Swedish building contractor Gene Bergmark and partner Carl Skogland opened a pizza restaurant inside a purpose-built barn and silo on Rockland Road. Construction started December 7, 1967. The restaurant started with deep dish pizza and still leads with it; the pie took the People’s Choice award at the Taste of Chicago two years running, in 1991 and 1992. Thin crust specialty pizzas, sandwiches, salads, appetizers and stuffed potatoes fill out the menu. The Silo sits on Route 176 a short drive west of downtown Lake Bluff, with a parking lot out front.
