Kirschbaum’s Bakery

Kirschbaum’s Bakery has been at 825 Burlington Ave in Western Springs since November 1954, a year after Lester and Cele Kirschbaum opened their first shop on Hillgrove Avenue in La Grange. Lester and Cele lived above the bakery until 1999, and their son Bob came home from the Army in 1962 to bake and decorate cakes beside his father. Bob’s son Mike joined full time in 1988 as the third generation. The cases hold sweet rolls, almond crescents, butter knots, fruit strip coffee cakes, strudel, pies and the frosted smile cookies. Everything is baked for in-store pickup; the bakery does not ship.
