About
Simon’s Tavern opened as a legal bar in 1934 at 5210 N. Clark St., after Swedish immigrant Simon Lundberg ran a basement speakeasy at the address during Prohibition, according to Block Club Chicago. Scott Martin has owned the bar since 1994. The tavern leans into Andersonville’s Swedish past with flags, wood paneling and a herring-and-martini neon sign out front. Glögg is the signature drink, and the jukebox made Block Club’s 2026 bracket of the city’s best.
