Bernice’s Tavern

Bernice’s Tavern sits at 3238 S. Halsted St. in Bridgeport, in a building that served as a funeral parlor in the early 1900s, according to Block Club Chicago. John Badauskas took over the bar in the early 1960s, and his wife Bernice became its public face; their son Steve runs it now. Visitors are buzzed in to a room of red walls, local art, guitars and a small stage. Block Club’s November 2025 Bridgeport gift guide noted the tavern is still open.
