Kayak Chicago

Kayak Chicago calls itself the city’s original kayak and paddleboard outfitter, and in summer the company runs rental stands on two beaches. The Montrose Beach stand sits at the southeast end of the beach, in front of the volleyball nets and just south of The Dock, and rents kayaks and paddleboards and teaches sea kayak and paddleboard classes. The North Avenue Beach stand handles kayak rentals and tours. A river location covers the North Branch and Goose Island.

What to know

• Single kayaks rent for $30 an hour or $90 a day; doubles are $40 an hour.
• Paddleboard rentals are offered at the Montrose Beach stand.
• Rentals are pro-rated by the quarter hour after the first hour.
• Tour customers are asked to arrive 15 minutes early.
• Beach stands operate in summer only.
