The Chicago Theatre
About
The Chicago Theatre is a 3,600-seat venue on State Street in the Loop. Balaban and Katz opened the theater in 1921 as the flagship of their chain, promoting the room as the Wonder Theatre of the World. Today the calendar mixes concerts and comedy; fall 2026 music dates include Sara Bareilles, a John Prine tribute and a five-night Tedeschi Trucks Band run. Guided tours cover the lobby, the staircase and the auditorium.
