About
Nourishing Hope is a Chicago nonprofit working on hunger through several food access programs. Its headquarters is at 1716 W. Hubbard St., and its grocery markets include Sheridan Market at 3945 N. Sheridan Rd. in Lakeview, El Mercadito at 3533 W. North Ave. in Humboldt Park and The Hub at 5151 N. Ravenswood Ave. Volunteers pack groceries, sort donated food and deliver groceries to people at home. The group takes individual adults, families, students earning service hours, community service volunteers and corporate groups.
What to know
- New volunteers fill out an online form, review a waiver and manual and attend a virtual orientation before booking a shift.
- Volunteers 16 and 17 can serve on their own; ages 13 to 15 need a parent or guardian present.
- Children 9 to 12 may help only at designated shifts with an adult; children 8 and under are not eligible.
- Home delivery drivers need a valid driver’s license.
- Sheridan Market is next to the Sheridan Red Line stop.
