Openlands

Openlands is a conservation nonprofit based at 25 E. Washington St. in the Loop that works on trees, open land and natural areas around Chicago. Most of its volunteer calendar is tree work: planting, pruning, mulching, watering and inventorying trees in neighborhoods across the city, plus habitat restoration with partner groups. Most events are open to anyone. Volunteers who want to go further can take the TreeKeepers certification program, which prepares them for more advanced tree care and gives access to select volunteer opportunities.

What to know

• The fall 2026 calendar includes plantings and pruning days in late September and early October, including in Little Village and at Wentworth Gardens.
• Corporate volunteer days can be arranged.
