Art Institute of Chicago

The Art Institute of Chicago is the art museum at 111 S Michigan Ave, at Adams Street in the Loop, with a second entrance to the Modern Wing at 159 E Monroe St next to Millennium Park. The bronze lions on Michigan Avenue mark the main door. The collection ranges from the Impressionist galleries to the American wing, where Nighthawks and American Gothic hang, and the museum runs ticketed special exhibitions through the year.

What to know

• General admission is $32 for adults, with lower prices for Illinois and Chicago residents and free entry for children under 14.
• Chicago teens under 18 get in free every day, and Third Thursday evenings are free beginning April 16, 2026.
• The first hour of each day is reserved for members.
• Every L line except the Yellow stops within three blocks, at Adams/Wabash or Monroe; there is no museum parking, so the Millennium Park garages are the fallback.
• Checkrooms are free, and bags over 13 by 17 by 4 inches must be checked.
