The Gage

The Gage is a gastropub at 24 S Michigan Ave in the Loop, across the street from Millennium Park and a block from the Art Institute. The restaurant occupies part of the landmarked Gage Group buildings, which once housed hat makers. The kitchen cooks a European-influenced American menu, and the bar keeps a long list of beer, whiskey and cocktails. Weekend brunch and pre-theater dinners fill most of the tables.

What to know

• Louis Sullivan designed the facade of the northernmost building in the group, which is why the block is a city landmark.
• Reservations are taken online through the restaurant’s site.
• The Madison/Wabash and Monroe L stops are each within two blocks.
