Firecakes Donuts is a small-batch doughnut shop at 68 W Hubbard St in River North, a five-minute walk from the Grand Red Line stop, with additional shops at 2453 N Clark St in Lincoln Park and 104 N Maple Ave in Oak Park and a food truck. The name comes from the fried dough that co-founder Karen’s grandfather, logging-camp baker Billy Hobbs, made in northern Wisconsin in the 1930s. The old fashioned buttermilk, vanilla iced and apple fritter anchor the case.
