About
Sun Wah BBQ is a Hong Kong-style Chinese barbecue restaurant at 5039 N Broadway in Uptown, a block from the Argyle Red Line stop. The Cheng family opened the restaurant on Argyle Street in 1987 and moved to the current renovated carriage garage on Broadway in 2009, where roast ducks hang in the front window. The barbecue counter turns out roast duck, pork and chicken, and the kitchen cooks congee, noodle soups, beef chow fun and Cantonese dishes. The off-menu Beijing Duck Dinner, carved tableside and finished with fried rice or noodles and a duck soup, is what most groups come for.
What to know
- The James Beard Foundation named Sun Wah an America’s Classic in 2018.
- The duck dinner feeds three or four people and is dine-in only.
- Reserving ahead for the duck is advised, since the kitchen plans birds days in advance.
- Street parking on Broadway and Argyle is metered, with no garages nearby.
