Giordano’s at 730 N Rush St in the Gold Coast is the downtown flagship of the stuffed pizza chain brothers Efren and Joseph Boglio started on the South Side in 1974, based on their mother’s double-crusted Easter pie from the Torino area. The stuffed pizza is tall: mozzarella and toppings under a second layer of dough, tomato sauce spread over the top, and slices that need a fork. Thin crust, pasta, salads and sandwiches are also served, and the Rush Street room has a full bar, a patio and event space. The Red Line’s Chicago stop is a block west.
What to know
- The chain has more than 40 Illinois restaurants plus shops in Florida, Indiana, Minnesota and Nevada.
- Reservations are accepted downtown.
- Stuffed pies take longer than pan pizza to bake, so build that into dinner plans.
- Street parking near Rush and Chicago is scarce.
