Taquería El Asadero

Taquería El Asadero is a family-owned taqueria at 2213 W. Montrose Ave., at Montrose and Lincoln in North Center, that had been on the block for 31 years when Block Club Chicago wrote about the restaurant in January 2025. Carne asada is the specialty, grilled to order, chopped and piled on doubled tortillas with cilantro, onion and salsa verde, with burritos, tamales, made-to-order guacamole and horchata on the side. Little has changed since Time Out reviewed the storefront in 2010, down to the Big Buck Hunter machine.

What to know

• Time Out’s 2024 list had the tacos at under $5 each and called them big enough that two make a meal.
• The Infatuation’s 2026 guide still calls the asada crispy and perfectly seasoned.
• The Western Brown Line stop is a short walk, and the 11, 49 and 78 buses stop close by.
• Street parking on Montrose is tight in the evening.
