Monarch Thrift Shop is a nonprofit thrift store at 2875 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Avondale, founded in 2015 as a social enterprise that uses the sales floor to train people facing barriers to employment in merchandising, pricing, inventory and customer service. Clothing is handpicked rather than dumped on racks, so the store reads more like a boutique than a bin store, with shoes, accessories and housewares mixed in, and revenue is reinvested in the workforce programs.
