A Christmas Carol at Goodman Theatre

The Goodman’s stage version of Dickens, adapted by Tom Creamer, runs November 13 through December 31, 2026 in the Albert Theatre downtown. Malkia Stampley directs, and Tim Hopper plays Ebenezer Scrooge this season, according to the theater. The Goodman has produced the show every holiday season for close to five decades, and the 2025 run was billed as the 48th.

The production runs about two hours and 20 minutes with one intermission, based on the theater’s listing for the prior season. Expect the full ghost story with a large cast, live music and the flying and fog effects families come back for. It is fine for school-age kids; very young children tend to jump at the Marley scene.

Tickets are sold through the Goodman box office and website, and prices vary by date and seat. Recent seasons sold out most December weekends, so the theater’s advice is to book early or watch for weeknight availability. Accessible performances (audio-described, captioned, ASL) are scheduled during the run at a set price listed on the show page.
