Al’s Steak House has been charbroiling steaks on West Jefferson Street since 1959, which makes the restaurant one of the oldest in Joliet. The house style is Grecian: steaks and chops seasoned and charbroiled, then served with a double-baked potato. Cooks cut the steaks and chops each day. Regulars order the filet, the steak sandwich with caramelized onions and horseradish sauce, lamb chops and the cream of chicken soup. A banquet room handles parties of up to 150, and the dining room sits on Joliet’s Route 66 stretch, a few minutes west of downtown by car.
