Aw Yeah Comics opened in Skokie in March 2011, founded by cartoonists Art Baltazar and Franco Aureliani, the team behind DC Comics’ Tiny Titans, with business partner Marc Hammond. The shop moved from Oakton Street to 7925 Lincoln Ave in downtown Skokie and keeps an all-ages, family-friendly approach: new weekly comics, trade paperbacks, a growing manga section, and a toy wall of Marvel Legends, Star Wars Black, McFarlane and Mego figures. The store publishes Aw Yeah Comics titles starring mascots Action Cat and Adventure Bug, hosts signings, and took Skokie’s Merchant of the Year award in a 2013 community vote, per Patch.
