Bergstein’s NY Delicatessen brought kosher-style deli food to 18064 Martin Avenue in downtown Homewood in May 2024, after years in northern Chicago Heights. The founder grew up in Brooklyn in the 1960s and started the business to bring New York deli food back to the south suburbs; Alice and Bill Davis own the deli today. Corned beef, pastrami, lox and kippered salmon are the counter staples, and the kitchen’s own specialties are sweet and sour cabbage soup, matzo ball soup, whitefish salad and tuna salad. Daily sandwich specials rotate through the week, and a separate catering line handles office and family orders.
