Burt’s Place

Burt’s Place is a pan pizza restaurant at 8541 Ferris Ave in downtown Morton Grove, across Lincoln Avenue from the Metra station. Burt Katz, the founder of Pequod’s, and his wife Sharon opened the restaurant in 1989 after selling Pequod’s in 1985, and for a generation this was the pan pizza people drove out of the city for. The shop closed in 2015 when Katz’s health failed, and Jerry Petrow and John Munao, who trained with him, reopened the restaurant in 2017 with the recipe intact: a caramelized crust with a sweeter sauce, best with sausage or a single topping.

• The Infatuation ranked the pizza fifth in 2025, and Eater Chicago kept the shop on its 2026 deep dish map.
• A limited run of frozen pizzas is sold for pickup only.
