Butch McGuire’s

Butch McGuire opened his bar at 20 W. Division St. in 1961 with money borrowed from his mother, and the McGuire family still owns the place. The bar calls itself Chicago’s original singles bar and credits Butch with the Harvey Wallbanger and an early celery-garnished Bloody Mary. The holiday decorations, including double-decker trains running through the bar, raise money for Mercy Home for Boys & Girls. On the river-dyeing Saturday the block sits inside the Shamrock & Roll street festival.
