Doughnut Vault

Doughnut Vault is a small walk-up doughnut shop at 401 N Franklin St, at Kinzie, in River North, across the street from the Merchandise Mart Brown and Purple Line stop. Part of Brendan Sodikoff’s Hogsalt group, the shop makes doughnuts daily from old-world recipes and sells the classics plus a rotating daily special until the batch is gone. The buttermilk old fashioned and a saucer-sized glazed yeast ring are the two to know.

What to know

• Preorders are taken online through Tock.
• A 2013 Time Out Chicago review counted 750 doughnuts a day, 900 on weekends, most sold within about 90 minutes.
• There is almost no seating, so plan to eat outside.
• The shop has been the neighborhood benchmark for doughnuts since the early 2010s.
