Downtown Islamic Center

The Downtown Islamic Center has held prayers on State Street in the Loop since 1976 and calls itself the only masjid in the heart of Chicago. The center hosts all five daily prayers and Friday Jumu’ah, which it recommends as the best introduction for first-time and interfaith visitors. DIC also runs classes, youth activities and women’s groups, and arranges group visits and tours. The congregation has acquired a building four times larger than its current home and is raising funds for the first phase of renovation.

What to know

• Visitors should dress modestly, remove shoes before the prayer area and avoid photos during prayer.
• The Jackson (Red and Blue) and Adams/Wabash (Loop lines) stations are nearby.
• The center points drivers to the 17 E. Adams St. garage, with a discount coupon from the office.
