The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center is a museum of Black history and culture on 56th Place at the east edge of Washington Park, next to Hyde Park. Founded in 1961 by Dr. Margaret T. Burroughs, the museum covers Chicago’s Black communities, the civil rights era and its own origins, with public programs through the year. Chicago residents pay a reduced rate, Wednesdays are free, and tickets are booked in timed slots online.
What to know
- Adult admission is $12.50 for Chicago residents and $14.50 for everyone else.
- Illinois public school students, active military and first responders get in free.
- Discounted parking is at University of Chicago Medical Garage B, 5631 S. Cottage Grove Ave.
- The museum closes on Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day and the day after Thanksgiving in addition to the major holidays.
