Griffin Museum of Science and Industry

Griffin Museum of Science and Industry is the science museum in the 1893 Palace of Fine Arts building at the north edge of Jackson Park, at 5700 S DuSable Lake Shore Dr in Hyde Park. The permanent exhibits include the U-505 submarine, the coal mine, the Boeing 727 and the Giant Dome Theater, and this is the one museum in the city where the add-on tours are the point. The Metra Electric 55th-56th-57th Street station is two blocks from the north entrance.

What to know

• The U-505 on-board tour costs $18 for adults and $14 for children on top of admission, and the mine tour is $12 and $9.
• Chicago residents get $9 off adult admission and $5 off for kids ages 3 to 11.
• Illinois residents get free general admission on set dates each fall; the October 2026 dates are the 5th, 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th and 18th.
• The underground garage, entered at 57th Street and Cornell Avenue, costs $22 with validation.
