Handlebar has served made-from-scratch vegetarian and vegan comfort food on North Avenue in Wicker Park since 2003. The menu runs from breakfast burritos with tofu or eggs to an oyster mushroom po’ boy, with daily specials such as mushroom “chicken” and waffles and a rotating house-made vegan cheesecake. A few seafood dishes are on the menu and marked as not vegetarian. The restaurant has a full bar and a beer garden, recycles, brews fair-trade coffee and sources locally.
