Kaufman’s Bagel & Delicatessen

Kaufman’s Bagel & Delicatessen has been the Skokie stop for bagels and corned beef since Maury Kaufman established the business in 1960, according to the deli’s own site. Everything in the bakery case is made on the premises: bagels, rye and challah, Eastern European pastries and coffee cakes. The deli counter handles corned beef, pastrami, smoked fish and salads by the pound, and a catering operation supplies shiva trays and office spreads across the North Shore. AOL’s Kitchen’s Best once called the bagel the best outside New York, a line the deli still quotes. The storefront sits on Dempster Street near Niles Center Road with a lot out front.
