Kribi Coffee grew out of founder Jacques Shalo’s childhood on his family’s coffee farm in Mabonji, Cameroon; after a tech sales career in the United States he returned to coffee and built the company with his son Jeremiah. The Forest Park cafe at 7324 Madison St air roasts in small batches in the shop, floating beans in hot air that lifts chaff away, a method the company says avoids the bitterness of drum roasting. The cafe serves espresso drinks, drip, pastries and a short savory menu. Kribi also runs the Cameroon Coffee Collective, buying directly from smallholder farmers.
