La Catedral Cafe & Restaurant

La Catedral Cafe & Restaurant brought Guadalajara-style breakfast to North Lawndale with a second location at 1407 S. Washtenaw Ave., in the Ogden Commons development near Ogden Avenue and California. The original in Little Village is known for the room full of Catholic religious artifacts; the North Lawndale cafe keeps the same menu, led by chilaquiles, the top seller, and sweets like pancakes, French toast and crepes done Mexican-style. The coffee bar uses Mexican syrups. Chef Ambrocio Gonzalez, who grew up cooking in Guadalajara, runs the small group that also includes Las Quecas in Melrose Park. The site has a private lot with a two-hour limit and outdoor seating.
