Lezza Spumoni & Desserts
About
Lezza Spumoni & Desserts traces to 1905, when Salvatore Lezza brought a spumoni recipe from Naples to Chicago’s West Side and started making the layered ice cream near Taylor and Halsted streets in Little Italy. The recipe passed to his son Victor and today to Ed Lezza Sr. of the third generation and his nephew Louis of the fourth. The wholesale plant in Bellwood supplies restaurants and stores; the Elmhurst shop on Spring Road is the retail bakery and gelateria. The cases hold spumoni, cannoli filled when ordered, gelato, cookies and Italian pastries, and the family bakes wedding and specialty cakes and assembles sweets tables for parties.
