Northlight Theatre was founded in Evanston in the 1970s, spent decades performing in Skokie, and returned to its home town on September 9, 2026, with the opening of a new $32 million building at 1012 Church Street. The 287-seat thrust-stage house was built for new plays and puts the audience close to the actors, with rehearsal space, a costume shop and greenrooms in the same building. The opening production, The Front Page, was extended through October 25, 2026. An attached steakhouse, The Barn, is run by chef Amy Morton. The box office is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and one hour before curtain.
