Pizano’s Pizza & Pasta at 864 N State St in the Gold Coast is the original location of the small chain Rudy Malnati Jr. opened in 1991. His father, Rudy Malnati Sr., worked at Pizzeria Uno when deep dish was created in 1943, and the pie here is a thinner, buttery deep dish on a dough recipe from his mother, Donna Marie Malnati. Thin crust pizza, pasta and Italian entrees fill out the menu, and the State Street room has a bar. The Chicago Red Line stop is a short walk.
