Pizzeria Uno

Pizzeria Uno is the River North restaurant at 29 E Ohio St, at Ohio and Wabash, where Ike Sewell introduced deep dish pizza in 1943. By most accounts this is where the dish began, though Lou Malnati’s and others dispute who built the recipe. The pizza still comes out of a cast-iron pan with a thick layer of cheese under sausage and sauce, and the room in the old brownstone basement looks the part. Pasta, sandwiches, salads and gluten-sensitive pizzas are also on the menu. The Red Line’s Grand stop is a short walk.
