The Seminary Co-op Bookstore at 5751 S. Woodlawn Ave. in Hyde Park has been a member-owned bookstore since 1961 and is the academic bookstore of the South Side. The shelves lean toward scholarly nonfiction in philosophy, history, political theory, religion and the social sciences, with strong literature and poetry sections. Author talks happen most weeks, usually at 4 p.m. on weekdays or 3 p.m. on Saturdays, and are free. The store is a short walk from the Metra Electric’s 59th Street/University of Chicago station and the 6 and 2 express buses from downtown.
