About
Tall Ship Windy is a 148-foot, four-masted gaff topsail schooner docked on the south side of Navy Pier. Navy Pier describes the ship as Chicago’s official tall ship, and 2026 marked the Windy’s 30th season at the pier. Public sails head out onto Lake Michigan for views of the skyline, and the schedule also includes fireworks sails, pirate-themed cruises and private charters for groups. Passengers get an open deck under sail rather than a motor launch, which makes for a slower, quieter ride than the tour boats nearby.
