The Urban Canopy started as a public school project and grew into a Chicago food company with three parts: a two-acre urban farm, a compost pickup service, and a CSA called LUCSA that delivers produce from local growers weekly or biweekly. The company is based at 2550 S. Leavitt St. in Pilsen. At farmers markets on the South, West and North sides, the stand sells its own produce plus vegetables from partner farms, accepts WIC and senior coupons, and runs a bucket-swap compost program for $5 a swap. The company also runs the free public compost drop-off at the Daley Plaza market on Thursdays.
