Thiocary Fashion has sold imported African clothing on Cottage Grove Avenue for more than 20 years, and the store at 65th Street is packed wall to wall. Owner Hamadoun Thiocary stocks long patterned dresses, mermaid skirts, tie-leg pants and hand-woven leather bags alongside cowrie shell necklace sets, Fulani hats and bogolan hand fans, and a second half of the shop is body care: whipped shea butter, black soap, sea moss and fragrance oils sold by the bottle. Block Club Chicago put the shop in its November 2025 gift guide for the lakefront South Side.
