Working Bikes

Working Bikes started in 1999 and has since given new life to more than 150,000 bicycles, according to the organization, shipping most overseas and donating thousands locally. The storefront on Western Avenue in Little Village sells refurbished used bikes, parts and accessories, and every sale funds the shipping, transport and staff behind the donation programs. A service department takes repairs, and volunteers turn donated bikes into rideable ones in the workshop. The shop marked a 27th anniversary in 2026 and remains one of the least expensive places in the city to buy a dependable commuter bike.
