The 10 best restaurants in Naperville

Naperville has more than 100,000 residents, a downtown that fills up every weekend and a restaurant scene that has moved well past the chain steakhouse and the mall food court. This list ranks the 10 restaurants in Naperville that have held up best over time: a rooftop room above the Riverwalk, a Spanish tapas house in an 1847 mansion, a Cantonese dim sum hall by the tollway and a pho counter in a strip mall on 75th Street.

The picks favor places that have lasted a decade or more and do something no other restaurant in town does, whether that is downtown on Water Street and Main Street or out on Route 59, Ogden Avenue and Naper Boulevard, where the parking is easier. Prices run from a $13 lunch plate to a $66 steak, and several of the top picks need a reservation on weekends.

How we chose

The order is based on how consistently a restaurant shows up across independent sources rather than on any single rating. We weighed coverage in the Naperville Sun and Chicago Tribune (reviews, openings and the paper’s Down to Business and Chef’s Choice columns), Time Out’s ranked Naperville list from November 2023, and the reader-voted Best of Naperville awards that Naperville Magazine published on August 27, 2026. Longevity counted: several of these places have been open for a decade or more. We also looked at whether each restaurant does something no other place in town does, and we confirmed every one is open in September 2026 using the restaurant’s own website or a 2026 news mention. We found no Michelin or James Beard recognition for any Naperville restaurant, so those awards did not factor in.

Santo Cielo

Five floors up in the Hotel Indigo on Water Street, https://windycitymagazine.com/business/santo-cielo/ is the room Naperville books for anniversaries, and the reason the restaurant ranks first is that every source we weighed agrees. The Cano brothers of the Bien Trucha Group opened the restaurant in April 2018 and call the cooking Latino Moderno. The March 2026 dinner menu runs from shishitos ($10) and shrimp tacos in jicama shells ($16) to a banana-leaf-braised pork shank ($45) and a one-pound bone-in New York strip with linguica and red chimichurri ($66). Glass walls retract in warm weather, so reserve ahead for a window table at sunset.

Mesón Sabika

Spanish tapas have been served in the same 1847 mansion on Aurora Avenue since 1990, which makes https://windycitymagazine.com/business/meson-sabika/ a 36-year fixture and the town’s default for a big-table celebration. The house sits on four acres just west of downtown, with a string of small dining rooms inside and a tree-covered patio out back. The menu is the classic tapas list: patatas bravas, grilled shrimp, tortilla española and paella for the table, with a Spanish-heavy wine list. The restaurant lands second because longevity and a patio nobody else in town can match count for a lot, and because families, first dates and office parties all end up here.

Quiubo

The Bien Trucha Group built the Naperville spot as a larger, calmer version of Bien Trucha in Geneva, with hand-painted murals by the Mexican artist Spaik, about 75 seats in the dining room and 20 more at the bar. Tacos anchor the menu and most of the rest changes with the seasons; the opening lineup included a Maine lobster ceviche and hibiscus tacos sautéed in adobo. Quiubo ranks third as the best Mexican cooking in town and the sibling of the restaurant at number one.

MingHin Cuisine

The Naperville dining room is big and bright, with booths for two and round tables with Lazy Susans for groups of ten. Dim sum is served all day rather than only at brunch: barbecue pork buns, shrimp shumai and pan-fried chive cakes are the usual order, and the dinner menu covers Cantonese roast meats and seafood. MingHin ranks fourth because no other restaurant within 30 miles of Naperville does dim sum at this scale, and the prices stay low for what arrives.

Hugo’s Frog Bar & Fish House

Frog legs, oysters and Gibsons Prime steaks have been on the menu at https://windycitymagazine.com/business/hugos-frog-bar-fish-house-naperville/ since the Gibsons Restaurant Group opened the Naperville room in the Main Street Promenade in 2004. The kitchen buys fish daily and pairs whatever arrives with seasonal vegetables, so the fresh-fish list changes; jumbo lump crab cakes and the bone-in ribeye are the fixed points. Lunch is the value play, with burgers, sandwiches and entree salads that cost a fraction of the dinner steaks. Hugo’s sits fifth as the town’s reliable special-occasion steakhouse, a step behind the top four only because the concept is a Chicago import rather than a Naperville original.

VAI’s Italian Inspired Kitchen + Bar

Route 59 rent is a fraction of downtown’s, which is one reason the Vai and Georganas families put https://windycitymagazine.com/business/vais-italian-inspired-kitchen-bar/ out there about eight years ago. The label “Italian inspired” is deliberate: pastas, pizza dough, sauces, dressings and gelato are made in house, but the menu also has bigeye tuna, Creole seasoning and steaks. Twin filet medallions ($41) have been the top seller since opening; the bolognese is $24 and a margherita from the wood-fired oven is $19. VAI’s ranks sixth as the Italian restaurant Naperville readers keep voting for, and as the best reason to eat on the south side of town.

Nine beef and chicken pho bowls run $15 to $17, with the house Pho Dac Biet (rare steak, flank, brisket, tendon and meatballs) at the top of the list. Banh mi, spring rolls and milk teas fill out the menu. Pho Thien ranks seventh, the highest of the strip-mall counters on this list, because two straight reader awards and a Time Out ranking are a lot of agreement for a $15 bowl of soup.

The Indian Harvest

North Indian cooking with tablecloths has been the pitch at https://windycitymagazine.com/business/the-indian-harvest/ since 1998, and the restaurant describes itself as the first fine-dining Indian restaurant in Naperville. After ten years at the original address, the owners moved in 2008 to the current room off Ogden Avenue near Royal St. George Drive. The menu is organized the traditional way, from shorba soups through tandoor breads, vegetarian entrees and lamb and chicken curries. The Indian Harvest ranks eighth on the strength of 28 years in business and a run of reader awards, in a town where Indian restaurants open and close every year.

The Hasan family have run a grocery on Devon Avenue in Chicago since 1989 and a kabab house there since 1998, and opened https://windycitymagazine.com/business/jk-kabab/ in a Naperville strip mall in 2016. The food is Indian and Pakistani, cooked to order on the grill and the tava, and everything is halal. Butter chicken ($19.99) and chicken tikka ($18.99) lead the dinner menu. The room is plain and casual, which is the point: this is where to eat well for under $20 on the northeast side. JK Kabab ranks ninth as the best cheap dinner on the list, held back only by a dining room that nobody would call a destination.

Empire Burgers + Brew

Two historic downtown buildings were combined to make https://windycitymagazine.com/business/empire-burgers-brew/, which opened in July 2016 with reclaimed barn wood, a long craft-beer list and a rooftop under a retractable roof. The burgers are half-pound Angus patties cooked to order and served on a pretzel bun; the namesake Empire mixes beef and bacon in the patty and tops the result with an egg and maple-bourbon syrup. Burger cigars (cheeseburger egg rolls) and fried doughnuts are the sides people talk about. Empire rounds out the list at tenth as the downtown burger-and-beer stop, the place for a Cubs game on the rooftop rather than a birthday dinner.
