The 10 best restaurants in Andersonville

Eat & Drink Updated Oct 2026 Next review Apr 2027 Suggest a correction

Andersonville, the western half of the Edgewater community area, centers on Clark Street between Foster and Bryn Mawr avenues. This ranked list of the 10 best restaurants in Andersonville is for residents picking a dinner spot and for visitors riding the Red Line to Berwyn. Every pick sits in Edgewater: one just north of Foster and two at the northern edge near Bryn Mawr. For shops and things to do nearby, see the Uptown and Andersonville neighborhood page.

The list favors restaurants with long runs and steady coverage from local outlets, from a Swedish breakfast room dating to 1932 to a Taiwanese noodle shop two blocks up the street. Prices run from $6 beignets at Big Jones to a $42 steak frites at Vincent. Several kitchens take no reservations, so weekend brunch and burger nights can mean a wait.

How we chose

The order rests on how widely and how recently each restaurant shows up in independent coverage, chiefly Time Out Chicago’s Andersonville guide from April 2024 and The Infatuation’s Andersonville guide, last updated July 2025, plus dated rankings such as Time Out’s January 2025 fried chicken list and February 2026 burger pick. Years in business broke ties. Every restaurant was checked against a 2025 or 2026 source, and places on the south side of Foster Avenue, which falls in the Uptown community area, were left off.

Hours and prices below come from each business and change without notice. Call ahead if you are making a special trip.

Big Jones

Paul Fehribach and Mark Armantrout opened Big Jones on Clark Street in 2008, and the all-scratch kitchen still pairs Southern cooking with produce from more than 30 local family farms, according to the restaurant. Fried chicken is the order: two pieces, white or dark, cost $14, and a half bird is $24. Time Out Chicago put Big Jones first among 27 picks on a January 2025 fried chicken list, noting a 2024 recipe change to rice flour and canola oil that made the chicken pork-free. That ranking and 18 years on the strip earn the top spot. Book weekend brunch on OpenTable, though walk-ins are welcome.

Svea

Swedish pancakes with lingonberry jam, falukorv sausage and meatballs with gravy anchor the menu at Svea, which The Infatuation dates to 1932. That makes Svea the oldest restaurant on this list. More than nine decades on Clark Street, plus spots on both the Time Out and Infatuation neighborhood lists, put Svea second. The restaurant sits between Farragut and Berwyn avenues, a walk west from the Berwyn Red Line stop.
