The 10 best romantic restaurants in Chicago for date night

Eat & Drink Updated Oct 2026 Next review Apr 2027 Suggest a correction

Date night in Chicago can mean a six-course tasting menu beside a pond, fondue by candlelight or a $21 plate of pasta on Kedzie Boulevard. This ranked list covers 10 restaurants inside Chicago city limits where dinner for two tends to go well, for couples planning an anniversary or just a good Friday night out.

The picks favor quiet or low-lit rooms, a view, a long menu, a serious wine list and a table a couple can book ahead. Prices run wide. Ever charges $325 a person for the tasting menu, Boka $195 and North Pond $138, while fondue dinners at Geja’s Cafe cost $51 to $87 and the pastas at Lula Cafe start at $20.

How we chose

The order comes down to how many date-night basics each restaurant delivers, judged on facts from the restaurant or from outlets such as The Infatuation, Time Out and WTTW: a dim, quiet room or a view, a tasting menu or a long dinner, a strong wine or drinks list, and a two-top that can be reserved. Stars from the 2025 Michelin Guide and years in business broke ties. Each restaurant’s current status was checked in October 2026 against the restaurant’s own site or a 2025 or 2026 source, and the list mixes neighborhoods and price points on purpose.

Hours and prices below come from each business and change without notice. Call ahead if you are making a special trip.

North Pond

A 1912 warming shelter for ice skaters is now the dining room at North Pond, set inside Lincoln Park with the Chicago skyline in view, according to Time Out and the restaurant. Dinner is a six-course seasonal tasting menu for $138, with choices at the fourth and sixth courses and a $77 wine pairing. The setting and the format put the restaurant first here, and North Pond made The Infatuation’s date-night list updated February 2, 2026. Rideshare drivers should drop at 2600 N. Lakeview Ave.; from there, walk east into the park under the bridge.

Hours: Dinner Thu-Sun from 5:30 p.m.; brunch Sun from 10:30 a.m.

Address: 2610 N Cannon Dr, Chicago, IL 60614

Why they made the list

  • Dinner is by reservation, though front-room and patio tables go first-come, first-served and cannot be held.

That length and the room make Ever the splurge pick and the second entry here. Reservations drop at 9 a.m. Central on the first Tuesday of each month for dates two to three months out, so set a reminder.

Fondue has been the plan at Geja’s Cafe since 1965, when John Davis opened a wine and cheese bar that moved to Armitage Avenue and went fondue-only in 1971, according to an Illinois House resolution marking the 60th anniversary. The room has candles, amber lighting and booths, and classical and flamenco guitar plays every evening. Premier dinners run $51 to $87 a person and cover Gruyère fondue, salad, meat or seafood cooked at the table, and chocolate fondue flamed tableside. Candlelight, live guitar and a meal paced over three courses put Geja’s third. Reservations are recommended.

Executive chef Lee Wolen’s kitchen holds one star in the 2025 Michelin Guide, per WTTW, and the eight-course tasting menu is $195, per Time Out and The Infatuation. Couples choose between a $145 set menu, with a $65 wine pairing, and a family-style à la carte list, though everyone at the table has to order the same way. The restaurant holds one star in the 2025 Michelin Guide, per WTTW. Fifth place reflects that flexibility, which lets a couple spend far less than at Ever or Boka.
